Update: Maine shooting suspect Robert Card has been found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, multiple law enforcement sources tell Channel3 NOW.

LEWISTON, Maine — A large-scale manhunt, involving numerous police officers, is currently underway in response to the tragic shootings that rocked this city of approximately 38,000 residents on Wednesday night.

According to an anonymous law enforcement official, at least 18 individuals lost their lives, while dozens more sustained injuries.

Authorities are actively seeking Robert Card, a 40-year-old resident of Bowdoin, identified as a “person of interest” who is considered armed and dangerous.

The Massachusetts State Police have indicated that reports circulating on police scanners Thursday morning, suggesting that the suspected shooter involved in the Lewiston, Maine incident has crossed into their state, are currently without confirmation.

This report initially surfaced in Oxford, ME, and was relayed out of an abundance of caution. Further information is being collected, but as of the present moment, it remains unverified.

Another law enforcement source, also requesting anonymity, disclosed that an examination of Card’s history revealed he is an Army reservist who grappled with mental health issues in the current year.

The shooting spree commenced shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, with authorities specifically mentioning two establishments tied to the incident: Just-In-Time Recreation, a bowling alley, and Schemengees Bar & Grille, an arcade-style restaurant. In response, the police issued a shelter-in-place advisory for Lewiston, along with the nearby towns of Lisbon and Bowdoin.

The father of the bar manager at Schemengees Bar and Grille has been informed by state police, and he confirmed to Channel3 NOW, that his son, Joseph Walker, tragically lost his life.

Leroy Walker, the father of the bar manager at Schemengees Bar and Grille, which was one of the two locations targeted by the shooter, expressed his anxiety in the aftermath of the incident. He shared his apprehension about the fate of his son, fearing that he might have been a victim of the attack. “If you could feel what’s going on inside me right now, it’s like I’m being crushed in a vice,” he stated. “The tension in my neck and the back of my head feels like a vice squeezing in the opposite direction.”
