Ronald Powell, a former NFL linebacker and player for the Florida Gators, passed away, as revealed by his former teammate Junior Galette on Monday.

Ronald Fredrick Powell is a former linebacker in American football who was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He pursued his college football career at the University of Florida.

Ronald Powell, a standout edge-rushing prospect hailing from California, held a prominent position in former coach Urban Meyer’s top-ranked recruiting class.

Following an impressive freshman season that earned Powell a spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team, he transitioned into a full-time starter in 2011, leading the team in sacks.

Unfortunately, an ACL injury sidelined him for the entire 2012 season. Despite the setback, a year and a half later, he returned to once again lead the team in sacks in 2013, although with reduced productivity.

His performance led to him being selected in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and he went on to play three seasons in the league.

He was 37.

RIP.
