Update: All clear has been given.

Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania has initiated a shelter-in-place directive following reports of an armed individual on campus.

The liberal arts institution, situated on the outskirts of Allentown, accommodates approximately 2,000 undergraduate students.

At present, it is uncertain whether anyone has sustained injuries. As a precautionary measure, four nearby educational facilities—William Allen High School, Raub Middle School, Muhlenberg Elementary, and Union Terrace Elementary—have been placed on lockdown.

The campus police issued a statement on social media shortly before 12:30 p.m., alerting the community to the presence of an armed individual on campus.

“Muhlenberg community members are instructed to ‘SHELTER IN PLACE.’ Yesterday evening, the campus hosted a ‘Walk to Remember’ event commemorating the Holocaust, organized by the school’s Jewish fraternity, AEPi.

Established in 1848, Muhlenberg College occupies an 82-acre campus within a residential neighborhood of Allentown.

It is recognized for its academic excellence, consistently ranking among the top 100 liberal arts colleges in the United States according to recent assessments.”

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
