13-year-old Akeem Pugh killed following shooting in Sumter

A 12-year-old, who was with him, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and a 17-year-old is charged with accessory before the fact.

A 13-year-old has died and two of his friends face charges in connection to a shooting outside of a Flamingo Road residence Sunday.

Officers responded to a shooting call at 12:08 p.m. where 13-year-old Akeem Pugh was found wounded next to an unused car parked at a home.

Officers administered aid until emergency officials arrived. Pugh was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey, where he was pronounced dead.

A 12-year-old, who was with him, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and a 17-year-old is charged with accessory before the fact.

Their names are not being released because of their ages. Both are being held at a state Department of Juvenile Justice facility.

Officers are continuing to investigate.

Notification of family was made by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week.
