Thomas Bastien and Renee Romero dead after involved in a verbal altercation in San Miguel County

New Mexico State Police Communications received a call from a 17-year-old juvenile stating he heard gunshots inside his residence.

Pecos, NM -On Saturday, October 28, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to investigate 2 suspicious deaths at 94 North Main Street in Pecos, NM.

State Police Investigations Bureau agents learned, that on October 28, New Mexico State Police Communications received a call from a 17-year-old juvenile stating he heard gunshots inside his residence.

With this information, NMSP officers arrived at the residence and observed a male and female deceased in the master bedroom with apparent gunshot wounds.

The male victim was identified as Thomas Bastien (30) of Pecos, NM. The female victim was identified as Renee Romero (33) of Pecos, NM.

Agents later learned that Thomas and Renee had been involved in a verbal altercation in the early hours of the morning on October 28 when the male juvenile heard gunshots coming from the bedroom.

Both Thomas and Renee were pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

This case is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau.
