12-year-old Josiah Small killed in South Bend shooting

A 14-year-old male, also suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating a shooting that claimed the life of one juvenile and wounded another.

On Friday, October 27, around 9:30 p.m., South Bend Police were called to the area of Indiana and Prairie Avenues on the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a 12-year-old victim, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As officers were investigating, they were alerted of a second victim, a 14-year-old male, also suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The deceased victim has been identified as Josiah Small of South Bend.

His family has been notified.

Small’s autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow in Kalamazoo.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit.
