At least 1 person shot at Fashion Place Mall in Murray, 6 people in custody

A teen was arrested Saturday after a shooting at the Fashion Place Mall in Murray and admitted to having “emptied his clip” during the altercation, according to Murray Police.

Update: On Saturday, a teenager was taken into custody following a shooting incident at Fashion Place Mall in Murray.

According to Murray Police, Imanuill Ahmed, 18, confessed to having “emptied his clip” during the altercation. Ahmed faces charges of felony discharge of a firearm (third-degree felony), obstruction of justice (third-degree felony), riot – bodily injury/property damage/dangerous weapon (second-degree felony), and criminal mischief (second-degree felony).

On January 13, authorities were called to a shooting at Fashion Place Mall, situated at 6191 South State Street.

Callers indicated that several individuals were engaged in the incident and were specifically targeting each other with gunfire.

Upon arrival, officers apprehended six individuals matching the descriptions of those involved. One of the detained individuals was found to have suffered a gunshot wound in the lower ankle, as reported by the police.

Law enforcement established that the six individuals had tracked a lone male into the mall’s parking lot.

A confrontation ensued, during which the individual who was being followed drew a firearm and discharged it towards the group of six.

Ahmed, among the group, was found to be in possession of a firearm and retaliated by returning fire.

During discussions with detectives, Ahmed allegedly admitted to having “emptied his clip” and subsequently concealed the firearm beneath a trash compactor.

According to the police, gunfire from the incident struck several uninvolved vehicles at the scene. Ahmed has been placed under arrest and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on the aforementioned charges.

As per an eyewitness account, I entered Fashion Place Mall approximately 15 minutes ago, and suddenly people started rushing out. Someone exclaimed, “Don’t enter, shots have been fired!” Within 60 seconds, a swarm of police officers hurried towards the mall.

A different observer narrated that Camilla and I were strolling through Fashion Place Mall just a few minutes ago when we were hurriedly ushered into the back of a store due to an active shooter in the vicinity. I never imagined I would experience such fear in my wildest dreams.
