Update: During the armed attacks on Derbent and Makhachkala in Russia’s Dagestan region, 5 police officers were killed and 9 others were injured.

Heavy gunfire has been reported at two locations in Russia’s Dagestan region, and a synagogue is on fire.

A policeman was killed in a shooting in Derbent, according to the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“Around 6:00 PM in the city of Derbent, unidentified individuals opened fire with machine guns on a synagogue and a church. Preliminary reports indicate that one police officer was killed and another was injured.

The suspects fled in a white Volkswagen Polo with the license plate 921.
