Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others have died in a plane crash, as confirmed by Colleen Samba, the president’s secretary, on Tuesday (June 11).

After an extensive search operation, the missing plane was discovered in Chikangawa Forest, with all occupants found deceased.

The Office of the President and Cabinet issued a formal statement detailing the accident.

A massive search operation had been launched in the mountainous forests of northern Malawi after the aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others went missing on Monday (June 10).

The plane, carrying Vice President Chilima, former First Lady Shanil Dzimbiri, and eight others, had departed from the capital.

Air traffic control in Mzuzu advised the pilots not to attempt landing due to bad weather and poor visibility, instructing them to turn around instead.

Shortly afterward, contact with the aircraft was lost, and it disappeared from radar.
