Update: Police apprehended Dameon Thomas, 35, for the fatal shooting that occurred Thursday evening at a Parkway Village gas station.

Thomas faces charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Around 4:30 pm, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Exxon gas station located at 2675 Getwell Road.

Officers reported finding a male victim unresponsive on the ground at the scene.

He was transported to Regional One Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators identified Dameon Thomas as the gunman based on witness accounts, which indicated that Thomas shot the victim after a verbal argument turned physical.

While still at the scene, Thomas was taken into custody by police and brought to the Homicide Bureau for further investigation.

Thomas claimed he shot the victim in self-defense. However, investigators stated that video surveillance from the scene contradicted his statement, showing that the victim was unarmed at the time of the shooting. Dameon

A deadly shooting on American Way near Getwell Road is under investigation by Memphis Police.

The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later died.
