Following through on a joint announcement with Norway and Spain last week, Ireland officially recognized Palestine as an independent country today.

The Irish government confirmed this decision in a morning meeting, establishing full diplomatic ties between their capital, Dublin, and Ramallah, the administrative center of Palestine.

An Ambassador of Ireland to the State of Palestine will be appointed, and a full Embassy of Ireland will be established in Ramallah.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris emphasizes that this initiative aims to sustain hope for peace.

“This decision by Ireland is about maintaining hope. It reflects our belief that a two-state solution is the only path for Israel and Palestine to coexist peacefully and securely,” he stated.

He also urged Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to heed international calls and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The conflict in Gaza began after the October 7 Hamas attack, where approximately 3,000 militants invaded Israel by land, air, and sea, killing around 1,200 people and taking 252 hostages, amid severe violence and sexual assault.
