Michael Brooks fatally shot Lashonda Wilkerson, then turned the gun on himself

Brooks is believed to be the victim’s ex-husband.

Update: Quanda Ball, 43, of Grasmere Drive, Augusta, was reported missing to the Sheriff’s Office last Thursday.

Coroner Mark Bowen stated that Ball was found deceased in a vehicle at the park and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday. She had been there for a few days.

This discovery occurred just hours after Michael Brooks shot his ex-wife Lashonda Wilkerson on Druid Park Avenue and then drove to the same park and committed suicide.

Authorities report that there is no apparent connection between the two incidents.

The Coroner’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that took place this afternoon at the intersection of Druid Park Ave and Walton Way.

Lashonda Wilkerson, 45, of the 400 block of Irongate Dr. in Hephzibah, Ga., was shot at least once and pronounced dead at the scene at 1:50 pm.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

The Coroner’s Office is also investigating a suicide at Pendleton King Park. Michael Brooks, 45, of the 1900 block of George Rd., apparently shot himself at least once while sitting in his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:45 pm.

On May 21, 2024, at 1:50 pm, deputies found a female victim at Druid Park Ave and Walton Way, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Coroner’s Office, upgrading the incident to a homicide.

At 2:35 pm, deputies discovered the suspect’s vehicle at Pendleton King Park with a deceased male subject inside, who appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time.
