Hostage situation near the intersection of Salt Springs Drive and Thaxton Road
Police ask public to please stay out of the area.
The Austin Police Department (APD) reports that its SWAT team is responding to an incident in southeast Austin near the intersection of Salt Springs Drive and Thaxton Road.
The suspectis reportedly holding several hostages at the Corner Store on Thaxton Road.
As a result, Palm Elementary School is on lockdown. They provided the following update:
“We are aware of police activity in the area. Our school is safe, and Austin ISD police will assist with dismissal. Bus routes will be rerouted and delayed.”
Further information indicates that the suspect is holding two employees hostage.
Before entering the Corner Store, the suspect allegedly stole a car.
Negotiations are ongoing, but the suspect refuses to come out.
