34-year-old Tyler Goins shot and killed during her birthday celebration in Columbus

A wave of violence struck Columbus overnight, with two separate shootings leaving four people dead.

The most tragic incident, a mass shooting, occurred on the city’s north side near the intersection of East 5th Avenue and Summit Street, between Weinland Park and Italian Village.

Columbus police responded to the scene at 2:45 am.

In the aftermath of the mass shooting, police reported six people were shot. Three victims tragically died, one is in critical condition, and two are in stable condition.

The investigation has caused significant road closures around the intersection of East 5th Avenue and Summit Street.

Expect delays as East 5th Avenue is closed from North High Street to North 4th Street and Summit Street is closed from East 7th Avenue to 3rd Avenue.

In a separate incident roughly two hours before the mass shooting, another shooting occurred in east Columbus.

At 12:35 am, police responded to reports of gunfire on the 4100 block of Vineshire Drive.

According to a Columbus police update on Saturday morning, the shooting stemmed from an argument that erupted during a birthday celebration for 34-year-old Tyler Goins.

Birthday festivities on the 4100 block of Vineshire Drive turned tragic around 12:35 am. An argument broke out, and 30-year-old Alsaiah Griffin allegedly shot 34-year-old Tyler Goins.

Medics pronounced Goins dead at the scene at 12:46 am.

According to Columbus police, Griffin initially fled but later surrendered and now faces murder charges.
