A pursuit initiated by an attempt to execute a warrant in Delaware culminated in a fatal police-involved shooting in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Law enforcement sought to serve a warrant to a woman residing on the 300 block of North Madison Street in Wilmington on Tuesday morning.

However, she managed to evade capture by fleeing in a vehicle. Family members later identified the woman as 22-year-old Yazmyn Stewart on Tuesday night.

As per officials, the individual was confronted regarding her suspected involvement in a shooting incident dating back to December 2, 2023, on the 500 block of West 8th Street.

Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky remarked, “The female was wanted, and there was an active warrant, and that’s why she fled from police.”

Stewart proceeded to lead law enforcement on a pursuit to the 2100 block of Market Street in Upper Chichester, Pa., where she crashed her vehicle and purportedly discharged shots at officers.

During the altercation, two Delaware state troopers discharged their firearms, although it remains uncertain whether Stewart was hit.

Subsequently, the woman reportedly commandeered a dark-colored SUV and traveled to Chester, where she collided with a building.

Following the crash, Stewart allegedly entered a residence at 12th and Kerlin streets by climbing through a window.

A Wilmington officer was transported to the hospital for assessment of a minor injury, while no additional injuries have been documented.

According to investigators, three Wilmington Police Department members, five Delaware State Police members, one Trainer Borough Police Department member, and one Chester Police Department member discharged their firearms.

A section of Interstate 95 was temporarily closed near the Chester scene around midday Tuesday, but has since resumed regular operations.
