16-year-old Dremone Patterson charged with murder of Keyon Day after shooting near Southeast High School

A 15-year-old driver is being considered for transfer to adult court and has been charged with first-degree murder under accountability.

Two juveniles from Springfield have been accused of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Keyon Day on April 24.

This development occurred the day following Day’s funeral at Union Baptist Church. Day was fatally shot while walking to Southeast High School on Taylor Avenue.

Springfield Police report that Dremone Patterson, aged 16, is suspected of firing the shots that resulted in Day’s death using a stolen firearm.

Deputy Chief Sara Pickford confirmed that the firearm had been recovered.

Patterson is facing charges as an adult, which include not only murder but also possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm as a member of a street gang.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old driver is being considered for transfer to adult court and has been charged with first-degree murder under accountability.

Additionally, this individual faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm as a member of a street gang, and obstruction of justice for attempting to dispose of the firearm.

The Springfield Police Department had interviewed seven juveniles who were in two separate vehicles believed to be linked to the shooting.

Pickford indicated that further charges and arrests are probable.
