28-year-old Trevenian Mitchell killed in apparent accidental shooting

The Wichita Falls Police Department is currently probing the demise of a 28-year-old Trevenian Chaquan Mitchell on Patterson Street on Monday night.

WFPD Sergeant Charlie Eipper stated that officers were dispatched to conduct a welfare check in the 100 block of Patterson Street at around 11:52 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024.

Police officers interviewed a witness at the location, who informed them that he and the victim had exited the house together.

According to the witness, the victim was carrying an AK-47 wrapped in a blanket, among other items.

The witness recounted hearing the rifle discharge, prompting him to turn around and discover the victim on the ground.

Additionally, officers had the opportunity to converse with the victim’s wife at the scene.

Presently, the Wichita Falls Police Department has stated that the shooting seems to have been accidental.

Detectives remain on-site, conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
