21-year-old Anthony Lambert Jr killed after shooting in west Birmingham neighborhood

Officials have disclosed the identity of a young man fatally shot in a west Birmingham neighborhood.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as Anthony Lambert Jr., aged 21, and a resident of Birmingham.

Around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, numerous gunshots were heard in the 5700 block of Court I in Ensley. This location is situated off Vinesville Road, near Fairfield and Miles College.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that Shot Spotter alerted authorities to the gunfire, followed by a call reporting an unresponsive individual near the roadside.

Lambert was discovered unresponsive in the front yard of a residence located in the 900 block of 58th Street.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service declared him deceased at the scene at 4:43 p.m.

Fitzgerald mentioned that there was some form of altercation between the victim and one or more suspects, although the specifics of the altercation were not immediately discernible.

While detectives and officers conducted their investigation, 911 dispatchers relayed over the police radio that a person of interest in the shooting desired to turn themselves in.

A family member of the individual was in communication with the police at the scene, facilitating the surrender, which occurred shortly afterward.

No formal charges have been announced thus far.

Fitzgerald mentioned that up to 10 shots were discharged.

It remains uncertain if there was an exchange of gunfire.
