The identity of the 15-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a shooting at a Dayton apartment on Sunday has been disclosed.

Kendra Farler was declared deceased at the scene, as confirmed by Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

Following the incident, a 38-year-old man was detained and booked into Montgomery County Jail on preliminary charges of murder and possessing weapons while under disability, according to jail records.

However, formal charges have not yet been filed as of Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, Dayton officers were dispatched to respond to a shooting in the 400 block of Bowen Street, situated just south of U.S. 35, close to Xenia Avenue and Steve Whalen Boulevard.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, a 15-year-old female,” stated Lt. Steven Bauer. “She was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

According to records from the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center, a 911 caller initially misidentified the girl as a 12-year-old and reported that she had been shot upstairs in an apartment.

The caller stated that they did not witness the shooting and were unsure if the victim was breathing.

They described hearing a gunshot followed by screams, as detailed in the 911 call.
