17-year-old Sadarion Cosby killed after shooting in Sanford

Sanford Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday evening, just before 8:00 p.m., near the intersection of Ellen Place and Scott Drive.

On April 9, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., a black male, later identified as Sadarion Cosby, (D.O.B. 1/6/2007), arrived at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen.

A short time later, Sadarion died as a result of his injuries.

Based on the investigation, the shooting took place near the intersection of Ellen Place and Scott Drive. Sadarion and three unidentified individuals approached a parked car with unknown occupants and shots were fired.

Immediately after, the vehicle and unidentified individuals fled the area. One of the individuals assisted Sadarion to a nearby house before fleeing the area as well.

Occupants of the home then drove Sadarion to the nearby hospital.

Regarding the incident, Chief Cecil Smith stated, “A seventeen-year-old lost his life. His ‘friends’, and I use that term loosely, ran rather than staying and helping him. They didn’t help him get the emergency medical attention he needed, nor stay to assist law enforcement identify and locate the person(s) who took his life. Unacceptable.”
