On April 2nd, 2024 at approximately 7:30PM Utica Police and Utica Fire units were dispatched to the 400 block of Kingston Rd regarding multiple 911 calls regarding shots being fired and parties injured.

The first arriving officer pulled his vehicle between two residences and immediately encountered a male brandishing a long rifle and noticed at least one party lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.

As the officer exited his vehicle the male pointed the rifle toward the officer; he then took cover behind his vehicle, and the male fired at least two rounds at the officer before fleeing toward a neighboring residence.

The male then entered the adjoining residence while the officer pursued. Within seconds the resident of the property exited informing the officers that the male had just shot himself inside. The officers entered and located the male suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

As other officers were arriving they first went to the initial property and located a male suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg, a female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her head and body, and a two year old child in the doorway.

The child was immediately secured and brought to safety and UFD personnel began to tend to the victims. The male was transported to Wynn Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening wounds.

The female, tragically, was pronounced deceased on scene. The infant was turned over to the care of family members on scene.

In the initial stages of the investigation it was learned that the female and male deceased parties were previous romantic partners and the child was theirs in common.

The male suffering from non-life threatening wounds was identified as the grandfather of the male suspect.

At this portion of the investigation we are attempting to determine any precipitating events that led to the incident. As information is developed we will release it if warranted.

Identities of involved parties will be released at a later time.
