Victim killed in Meriwether County Easter gathering identified as 23-year-old Jaylen McGruder

The suspect is still at large, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.

A large gathering of about 300 to 400 people outside a package store in Meriwether County near Woodbury ended in tragedy with a fatal shooting on Sunday night.

Authorities in Woodbury responded to reports of the shooting around 9 p.m. on March 31. The incident happened in the 10000 block of Millarden Road near Cove Road.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered that 23-year-old Jaylen Mcgruder had been fatally shot.

The suspect is still at large, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.

The police chief was unable to provide many details about the shooting as the GBI has taken over the investigation.

Witnesses reported hearing numerous rounds fired and mentioned that multiple individuals had been hit, with emergency medical services providing assistance.

According to a woman broadcasting live on Facebook, who said she was caught in the midst of the gunfire, she heard numerous shots.

Further information is being sought from the Meriwether County Coroner.
