23-year-old man killed after shooting at Easter gathering in Meriwether County

An extensive gathering of approximately 300 to 400 individuals outside a package store in Meriwether County near Woodbury culminated in a fatal shooting on Sunday night.

Authorities in the small city of Woodbury received reports of a shooting incident around 9 p.m. on March 31.

The incident occurred in the 10000 block of Millarden Road near Cove Road.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement found a 23-year-old man fatally shot. The perpetrator remains at large, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has assumed control of the case.

The police chief couldn’t provide extensive details about the shooting as the GBI has assumed investigative responsibilities.

Witnesses report hearing hundreds of rounds fired and indicate that multiple individuals have been struck, with emergency medical services attending to them.

According to a woman on Facebook LIVE, who claimed to have been caught in the crossfire, she heard dozens of shots.
