Suspect arrested after reports of shooting on Strand Street in Galveston

GALVESTON, Texas (March 13, 2024) – At approximately 4:10 p.m. March 13, Galveston police responded to reports of a man on the roof of a building with what appeared to be a firearm, in the 2200 block of The Strand.

Multiple police units quickly responded to the location and cleared the block to ensure the safety of visitors in the area.

At this time Galveston police have one person in custody that has been transported to The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for medical evaluation.

While it has been reported that shots were fired, police have found no evidence of shots fired, and no firearm has been recovered. There is also no evidence that this was associated with any robbery attempt.

This remains an active investigation. While visitors on The Strand may still notice a police presence in the area, as the investigation is ongoing, the department finds no threat to the public at this time.
