School Lockdown

Update: Three more school districts have initiated lockdown procedures as authorities persist in their search for a suspected shooter.

Owsley and Lee County schools are observing “soft lockdowns,” while Powell County Schools are under a “perimeter lockdown.”

Powell County Schools received notification from a Wolfe County school official regarding a shooting incident in their community, not on school premises. Reports suggested that the suspect was en route to Breathitt County. As a precautionary measure, all schools were contacted to verify that exterior doors were secured. Families and staff were not prevented from entering the buildings, but the purpose was to ensure that school administrators were informed about the situation.

According to a source, “All of our schools are presently under a hard lockdown in collaboration with local law enforcement, following an incident in the Bethany Area.

No individuals are permitted to enter or exit the buildings.

The suspect remains at large, and there are reports indicating the suspect may be driving a white Chevrolet pickup truck.”
