False incendiary device and active shooter threat at Kankakee Valley High School

During the morning of Wednesday, February 28, 2024 the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a threat to the Kankakee Valley School Corporation by incendiary device and active shooter.

A rapid response by multiple agencies included: Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Demotte Police Department, Indiana State Police, Porter County Sheriff’s Office, Keener Township Fire and Ambulance Departments, Wheatfield Township Fire and Ambulance and the Jasper County Hi-Way Department.

The threat was investigated and determined to be false. The school, area law enforcement and first responders took all necessary steps to ensure safety.

Out of an abundance of caution all Kankakee Valley Schools were placed on lockdown.

The school resumed normal school activities prior to noon.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, anyone with information concerning this event are asked to contact our Office and ask for Detective Buschman or Detective Napier.
