The coroner has identified the individuals who tragically lost their lives in Waukegan on Saturday afternoon due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek stated that autopsies were conducted on Rodrigo Olivan, aged 28, of Waukegan, and Ana Gil, aged 24, also from Waukegan, on Tuesday.

Banek reported that Olivan succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while Gil passed away due to complications arising from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department were dispatched to the scene around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday in response to a shooting incident in the 400 block of Powell Avenue in Waukegan.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds, as stated by Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain.

Olivan, reportedly shot in the head, was declared deceased at the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was informed and promptly arrived at the scene. Chastain stated that the second victim, Gil, sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

She was conveyed to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was listed in critical condition. Sadly, Gil succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, as confirmed by the coroner’s office.

The Waukegan Police Department Major Crime Scene Unit, Community Crimes Division, and Criminal Investigations Division all attended the shooting scene.

Investigators remained at the scene for several hours, leading officers to close down Powell Avenue. Shell casings were observed and marked with numerous evidence markers on both the street and the grass along Powell Avenue, just south of Forest Avenue.

As of Monday, no suspects had been apprehended; however, Chastain assured that “all leads are being investigated.”
