The Ector County School District reported that Odessa High School was placed on lockdown following a shooting incident in the parking lot.

The student sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the foot and was transported to the hospital.

The shooting occurred on the campus’s west side around 9:45 AM on Monday, and authorities believe the shooter has left the area.

During a press conference, district officials stated that one suspect is presently in custody, and all other students and staff are unharmed.

The identities of the victim and the suspect have not been disclosed, but authorities believe the shooting was an isolated occurrence.

The latest update mentioned that the police have ensured the safety of the campus and are allowing students to leave.

They mentioned, “Parents who wish to pick up their children from school may do so, and their absence will be excused. Counselors and campus leaders will be available to speak with students who wish to talk before leaving. Additionally, we will provide support to all students who choose to stay on campus for the remainder of the day.”

ECISD and law enforcement are continuing their investigation into the situation and will provide further updates as the day progresses.
