30-year-old Margaret Shafe charged with murder of Fort Riley soldier Greg Shafe

A woman, identified as Margaret E. Shafe, 30, residing in Fort Riley, has been charged in connection with a shooting fatality at a military post in Junction City.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has filed charges of second-degree murder against her for the death of Greg Shafe on February 19, 2024, at Fort Riley.

As per a social media update by the 1st Infantry Division, a soldier from the division was shot in his residence on Monday.

Following the incident, a suspect was promptly apprehended. Federal authorities have assumed control of the investigation and are actively pursuing leads.

Today, Shafe appeared for her initial hearing. If found guilty, she could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The case is currently under investigation by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Army Criminal Investigation Division, as stated by the Attorney’s Office.
