A teenager from Bessemer lost his life in a car crash following a police pursuit, in which he was a passenger.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, along with the family, identified the teen as Hajsun Jermale Hudson Jr., aged 18.

The collision occurred at 11:54 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Sixth Avenue North and Fifth Street North in Lipscomb.

According to authorities, Lipscomb police officers attempted to pull over a Dodge Challenger for speeding and reckless driving, but the driver failed to comply.

After a brief pursuit, officers decided to terminate the chase. Shortly afterward, they discovered the vehicle had crashed.

Reports indicate the car collided with a tree before overturning. Hudson was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was taken off life support on Saturday by Broaden.

One juvenile passenger is currently in critical condition, while another juvenile involved is reportedly unharmed.

Authorities have identified the driver as an adult who has been placed under custody, although details regarding potential charges are not yet disclosed.

Despite multiple attempts, there has been no success in reaching Lipscomb police and city officials since Friday.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has taken on the investigation of the crash. Broaden mentioned that the family is profoundly saddened by Hudson’s passing, noting that he was absent from school on Friday due to an e-learning day.
