Police shoot suspect who brought gun to Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy Mesquite

An individual who brought a firearm into a Mesquite charter school is currently hospitalized after being shot by police.

The incident occurred at the Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy Mesquite, located near Oates Drive and Gus Thomasson Road.

According to police, the individual entered the building carrying a firearm, prompting the call to police being upgraded to an active shooter situation.

Upon arrival, officers engaged in negotiations with the individual, and during these negotiations, an officer discharged their weapon, injuring the suspect.

Fortunately, no students or officers sustained injuries.

The injured individual, identified as the shooter, was transported to the hospital in an unknown condition. Currently, the name and age of the shooter remain undisclosed.

While authorities have clarified that this is not an ongoing active shooter situation, further details have not been released.

Mesquite police and fire departments are facilitating the reunification of students with their parents at Northside Baptist Church on Moon Drive.

The school reassured the community via a statement on social media that the situation was swiftly and effectively managed, with everyone accounted for and safe.
