Law enforcement is currently addressing a potential threat at Dunnellon Middle School, as reported by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Responding to a call for service, MCSO issued a public notification at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

According to a source familiar with the situation, an individual threatened to arrive with a firearm and open fire at the school, although no gunman was sighted.

MCSO has urged the public to steer clear of the area and is actively ensuring the safety of the school premises.

Dunnellon Middle School is currently under a code red lockdown as a precautionary measure. Sheriff’s deputies are present to safeguard everyone.

“There’s no confirmation of any injury,” stated Marion County Public Schools spokesperson Kevin Christian.

Dunnellon Elementary School and Dunnellon High School have been placed on a code yellow lockdown as a precautionary measure, Christian added.

A witness recounted, “As I was leaving work, I witnessed a procession of 30 police cars, 5 fire trucks, and 6 ambulances – it seemed never-ending.”

A mother reported, “There’s an active shooter at the school. Code red. My daughter is hiding.”

Someone reported, “My brothers were nearby and heard the shooting near the school. Police with AR-15s were conducting a search in the vicinity and instructed them to leave the area.”

Police ask public to please stay out of the area.
