Update: The lockdown at Coweta County’s Central Education Center, prompted by reports of an armed person in one of the school’s bathrooms, has been lifted.

Coweta County Schools officials confirm that there is “no threat” at the Central Education Center located on the 100 block of M.L.K. Jr Drive in Newnan.

Original Report:

A school in Coweta County is currently under lockdown following reports of an individual with a weapon in one of the school’s bathrooms.

Just before Noon, an SRO Officer notified dispatch of a CODE RED at the Central Education Center, requesting all available units to respond.

He then stated that he’d been informed of a possible armed student who was isolated to the men’s bathroom in the 700 building.

NPD and CCSO units rushed to the scene. Units entered the school to back up the SRO while even more units set up a perimeter and stopped all traffic from the roundabout to Pinson st.

Units secured the hallways where students were locked in classrooms per policy. Units then set up a secure location within the campus and cleared each classroom one by one evacuating students and staff to the safe location.

Both the NPD and CCSO Swats teams were activated and deployed to the scene.

The details of how that all works isn’t something I’m going to discuss or that I’m any more privy to than any other citizen.

Once units had done a 100% clearance of the school, and they were sure of the safety of the students, the school was moved to a CODE GREEN.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
