43-year-old Genise Carter found shot to death in northern Birmingham

Officials have disclosed the identity of a woman discovered murdered on a dead-end street in Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Genise Carter, a 43-year-old resident of Birmingham.

The discovery occurred at 8:21 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, in the 1300 block of 18th Street North.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald reported that a city worker found the woman unresponsive, and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her dead at the scene at 9:24 a.m.

Initially, detectives did not observe any apparent indications of foul play.

Nevertheless, following the transportation of the body to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, an autopsy revealed that Genise Carter had been shot.

Her death marks the sixth homicide in Birmingham this year, contributing to a total of eight homicides in all of Jefferson County, including the six in Birmingham.

No arrests have been announced as of yet.
