25-year-old Jessica Young-Thomas and 24-year-old Jay Carpenter dead after a domestic shooting

A domestic shooting on Wednesday night resulted in the deaths of 25-year-old Jessica Young-Thomas and 24-year-old Jay Carpenter.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2900 block of Searles Avenue around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, where they discovered Jessica Young-Thomas, a woman who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

She was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Investigators suspect that she was shot by the 24-year-old man, Jay Carpenter, who was subsequently found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Sheriff’s Office asserts that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
