Coming together as a community is a necessity; however, holding those accountable for these senseless acts should also be as high a priority.”

A 16-year-old Utica resident has succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head, according to Utica Police. The incident occurred on January 17 around 9:30 p.m. in the 110 block of Smith Place.

Emergency crews discovered the male in the roadway, injured, and promptly transported him to Wynn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are seeking information about the shooter and urge anyone with surveillance footage in the Upper East Utica and Cornhill area to review their systems.
