21-year-old Mia Nickson found shot to death outside home in Birmingham

In Birmingham’s Crestwood area, a 21-year-old woman named Mia Nickson was discovered fatally shot in the driveway of her residence.

Birmingham police identified the victim after East Precinct officers responded to a 1:45 a.m. Wednesday report of a person shot in the 800 block of Green Crest Turn, located off Crestwood Boulevard.

Upon arrival, Officer Truman Fitzgerald reported that the police discovered Mia Nickson, who was wounded, unresponsive in the driveway.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her dead at the scene. According to the preliminary investigation, it appears that Nickson was outside her residence when the fatal shooting occurred.

The perpetrator or perpetrators fled the scene, and although there were other individuals inside the home at the time, they remained unharmed.

As of now, no arrests have been made.

Mia Nickson marks the second homicide in Birmingham for the year 2024. Across Jefferson County, there have been a total of four homicides, including the two within Birmingham.
