An apparent altercation at a popular pub in unincorporated Wheaton on Friday morning concluded in a shooting that claimed the life of one man.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) reported responding to a shooting at Rosie O’Reilly’s Pub, 0N131 Gary Ave., just before 8:45 a.m. on Friday.

Witnesses recounted an argument unfolding inside the pub, leading to a fatal outcome. A spokesperson for the DCSO confirmed the homicide, but the identity of the deceased man is being withheld, with an autopsy pending from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.

According to witnesses, two individuals appeared to be engaged in an argument inside Rosie O’Reilly’s on Friday morning before deciding to move outside.

Dwyer mentioned that one of the individuals then went to retrieve a firearm. The victim and another man were seemingly engaged in playful activities on the pub’s outside deck, at one point dancing together as if music was playing.

Shortly afterward, according to eyewitnesses, a gunshot struck the victim on the forehead, causing a fatal wound.

However, witnesses stated that the two men who were outside with the victim, including the individual who discharged the weapon, did not attempt to flee the scene as pub patrons called 911.

They remained at the location,” Dwyer said. DuPage County Sheriff’s investigators reportedly have access to the pub’s surveillance footage, which may provide insights into the events that transpired on Friday morning, resulting in a man’s death.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the scene was promptly secured, and all individuals involved, including the alleged shooter, are in custody.

Officials emphasize that this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public.
