All victims killed in shootings at three locations in Memphis identified

Suspect Mavis Christian Jr., 52, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot while on the run.

Update: On November 19, 2023, at 3:31 a.m., officers located who is believed to be the suspect, Mavis Christian Jr., inside the white Chevrolet Malibu in the 3000 Block of Alta Road, suffering from what appears to be a self- inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Through the collaborative effort between law enforcement, the community, and the media, the suspect was located quickly without the additional loss of lives.

Memphis police released the following statement after finding Christian’s body:

We are deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless shootings on Saturday, November 18th, resulting in the deaths of four innocent family members and a fifth victim critically injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their loved ones as our community grieves more lives taken by domestic violence. We are grateful for the brave, quick, and decisive actions of the men and women of the Memphis Police Department, area state and local law enforcement agencies, and especially the United States Marshals/Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force who located the suspect, Mavis Christian Jr., dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Memphis Police Department and the City’s communications team worked quickly to ensure the community at large was made aware of this dangerous and rapidly unfolding situation by sending citywide emergency notification through Memphis Alerts during the subsequent manhunt. Original Report:

At 9:22 p.m., officers responded to the 100 Block of Howard Drive regarding a shooting. Officers located a female with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Through the course of the investigation, it has been determined that this scene and two other recent shooting scenes are connected and involve the same suspect.

Various sources have independently verified with Channel3 that among the five family members killed, a 13-year-old and the suspect’s wife are included.

Tawanda Barron, Ruby Christian, Lateisha Bobo, and Tori Christian were killed and Taylor Logan is in critical condition.

The suspect has been identified as Mavis Christian Jr., DOB: 9/15/1971. If you see him or his vehicle, please call 911 immediately. Do not approach or engage this individual, he is armed and extremely dangerous.

Preliminary information indicates this was a Domestic Violence incident, and the suspect is a known relative who fled each scene in a white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu bearing TN Tag #390-BHTM in an unknown direction.

This multi-jurisdiction manhunt is comprised of local, state, and federal agencies who are actively searching for this suspect.
