Tragically, a 13-year-old lost their life on the east side of Indianapolis on Wednesday night after sustaining gunshot wounds.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received reports of a person shot shortly after 8:30 p.m. at the 3500 block of Blue Spruce Lane, the site of the Villages at Mill Crossing apartment complex.

Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered a juvenile with gunshot injuries. Identified on Thursday as 13-year-old Dayon Lyles, the victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and, unfortunately, succumbed to the injuries later on.

IMPD indicates that the shooting possibly originated from a disturbance involving two groups in the vicinity.

Lyles is thought to have been an innocent bystander, not an intended target in the incident.
