Emergency response teams from Lumberton Police, Fire, and EMS are en route to a fatal shooting incident outside Papa John’s in a strip center.

It is suggested that the shooting is likely a case of self-defense.

The incident occurred in the Madison Plaza shopping center at 209 Main Street, where Papa John’s and several other businesses are situated.

The shooting was reported around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Chief Sullins has conveyed preliminary information suggesting that a suspect engaged in an argument with another man and shot him in the arm outside Papa John’s.

In response, the shooting victim’s son shot the suspect, resulting in the suspect’s death at the scene.

The injured father was subsequently transported to a hospital, with Lumberton Fire Marshal Jimmy Blanchard overseeing the non-emergency transport to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Chief Sullins and his officers have interviewed the son, who is cooperating. As of now, no arrests have been made.

Chief Sullins informed us that both the District Attorney and Justice of the Peace Melissa Minton were present at the scene, with Minton ordering an autopsy.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
