A 19-year-old man is currently facing a preliminary murder charge based on witness accounts stating that he shot a 17-year-old within a Speedway residence around 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The individual, who is yet to face formal charges, discharged a single round from a rifle while situated in the basement of a residence in the 5000 block of W. 22nd Street in Speedway.

Witnesses inside the residence reported that despite being informed multiple times that the gun was loaded, the man proceeded to discharge a round in the general direction of 17-year-old Caiden Clements.

Tragically, Clements lost his life in the home.

Subsequently, the 19-year-old Benjamin Mulkey was taken into custody on an existing warrant for domestic battery and faces a preliminary charge of murder.

At the time of Sunday’s shooting, there was an active warrant for his arrest. Mulkey faced charges for assaulting his young girlfriend back in September.
