Kennedy Middle School experienced an incident involving an ‘active shooter’ on Monday night, as reported by the Germantown Police Department.

While no injuries were reported at the school, the Wisconsin Department of Justice later stated that Germantown officers shot the suspected shooter shortly after 6:36 p.m.

Medical aid was administered, but the suspected shooter succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Consequently, all Germantown schools remained closed on Tuesday.

Kennedy Middle School students will have classes canceled for a second consecutive day on Wednesday, while other Germantown students are set to resume their regular schedules.

Superintendent Chris Reuter conveyed in a message to families on Tuesday that the middle school will remain inaccessible until further notice.

Initially, police were called to the school, situated at N118 W15860 Williams Drive in Washington County, in response to a report of an individual displaying erratic behavior in the parking lot.

According to the DOJ, this person managed to ascend to the roof of the school, prompting two officers to give chase on foot.

The individual fired their weapon, prompting officers to respond with gunfire, as stated by the DOJ.

This event led to a significant law enforcement presence. Around 8:40 p.m., the Germantown School District issued a statement confirming the school was under lockdown, and all students were being bused to MacArthur Elementary.

Parents were later able to reunite with their children at that location.

According to the DOJ, approximately 50 to 70 students were present inside the school when the incident occurred.

As per standard procedure, the officers involved have been put on administrative leave.
