16-year-old Travis Johnson killed in shooting at VIP Smoke Shop in Delhi Township

Early Friday morning, a tragic incident unfolded at a smoke shop in Delhi Township, where a teenager lost his life due to a shooting, as confirmed by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.

The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Travis Johnson.

The proprietor of the VIP Smoke Shop, located off Delhi Road, contacted 911 shortly after 1:45 a.m. and informed the dispatcher that a man who had forcibly entered the store had been shot.

When asked about the shooter, the store owner responded, ‘My worker.’ The dispatcher sought clarification, asking, ‘Your worker did?’ to which the owner affirmed, ‘Yeah. He was protecting himself.’

Authorities are actively seeking a vehicle of interest, described as a stolen silver Kia Rio with the license plate JTJ1115.

On Friday night, a vigil was underway to commemorate the individual who tragically lost their life when suddenly gunfire erupted, as reported by the police. Shortly after the woman was shot during the vigil, law enforcement responded to a SWAT standoff on McPherson Avenue.

Police stated that the individuals suspected in the initial shooting sought refuge inside their residence and declined to cooperate with authorities.

SWAT successfully extracted the suspects from the residence, and they were subsequently apprehended, as confirmed by Delhi Township police.

The individual in custody has been identified as Isaiah Johnson, 20, as of Friday.

Following interviews conducted by Delhi detectives, Johnson was formally charged with felonious assault. He has been transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center.

The investigation remains underway.
