73-year-old David Martz shot and killed his wife Joann Kay Martz at home in Williamsport

A man from the Pinesburg area is facing charges in connection with his wife’s death, who, as indicated by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, seemed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, David Martz Jr., 73, informed a 911 dispatcher that he had fired the fatal shots at his wife.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence on Cedar Ridge Road, situated in the 11700 block, following a report of a shooting just after 9 a.m. on Thursday, as outlined in the release.

Upon arrival, deputies apprehended Martz and discovered a woman exhibiting signs of gunshot wounds.

Tragically, the woman, identified as Joann Kay Martz, 66, was declared deceased at the scene, as detailed in the release.

Martz is facing charges of first- and second-degree murder, along with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, according to the release.
