11-year-old child murdered in road rage incident after Isotopes game
According to APD spokesman Gilbert Gallegos, the boy’s aunt, who is in her twenties, is anticipated to pull through but has suffered severe injuries.
On Wednesday night, as a family was departing from the Isotopes game, an individual in another vehicle discharged 17 shots at their truck.
This tragic event resulted in the loss of an 11-year-old boy’s life and left his aunt in critical condition.
The boy’s mother and infant brother were also in the truck’s backseat but thankfully escaped unharmed.
The shooting incident occurred as families were exiting Isotopes Park following the team’s loss to the Reno Aces. At approximately 9 p.m., officers managing traffic control in the vicinity of Isotopes Park heard gunshots, though they were initially unsure of the source.
Subsequently, numerous 911 calls reported the occurrence of a shooting.
Authorities were directed to the westbound lane of Avenida Cesar Chavez, close to University, where they discovered a truck pierced with 14 bullet holes.
Upon closer examination, officers found a boy with a gunshot wound to his head and a woman in critical condition, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The boy’s mother and his infant brother, who is just a few months old, were also in the backseat.

Thursday morning saw Mayor Tim Keller and Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina reaching out to the community for assistance in identifying those accountable.
Chief Medina disclosed that they intend to unveil images of a suspect vehicle later in the day. He emphasized that they have assigned one of their top homicide teams to handle the case.”
Medina urged anyone with information to step forward. He stated during a briefing at APD headquarters, ‘All we need you to do is point us in the right direction, and our detectives will take it from there.’ He encouraged people to consider those in their immediate circle and reflect on individuals engaged in wrongful activities.
He emphasized thinking about one’s own family and what they would hope for—someone willing to be courageous and come forward with crucial information for law enforcement.
