Kenney shooting suspect Jose De Jesus Gomez Munoz found dead

Munoz was deceased from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

At approximately 9:00 P.M. on September 4, 2023 DeWitt County CenCom received a call from an individual stating they believed they had located the vehicle driven by Jose De Jesus Gomez Munoz near a wind tower in Macon County just South of the DeWitt / Macon County line.

DeWitt County Deputies responded to the location along with Macon County deputies.

Upon arrival deputies located the white Honda Accord bearing Illinois registration DT50632.

Upon further investigation Munoz was located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Munoz was deceased from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Munoz was wanted in connection to the murder of his father-in-law and the attempted murder of his son.

On Sunday, authorities arrived at 635 Kenney Road and discovered the lifeless body of 78-year-old John Wesley “Wes” Anderson and 21-year-old Kigan Antonio Munoz, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Kigan is currently in stable condition at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Macon County Coroner and Illinois State Police will be handling the death investigation of Munoz.
