The rock and roll legend passed away on Sunday morning at his residence in Boise, Idaho, due to liver failure, as disclosed by the band’s manager to Channel3.

Harwell passed away peacefully, with his loved ones and friends by his side, according to the band’s manager, Robert Hayes, as he shared with the outlet.

Hayes also mentioned, “Steve had retired from Smash Mouth two years ago, and the band is still touring with their new vocalist, Zach Goode,” in an interview with Rolling Stone.

However, Steve’s musical legacy will endure through his music. With Steve as their frontman, Smash Mouth achieved remarkable milestones, including selling over 10 million albums worldwide.

They also reached the pinnacle of the charts with two #1 hit singles, secured five Top 40 singles, notched three Hot 100 Singles, released four Billboard 200 albums, and received a Grammy nomination.

Additionally, their music featured in numerous films and television shows, with notable contributions to the Shrek franchise. Smash Mouth’s manager emphasized that Steve’s iconic voice remains one of the most distinctive and recognizable from his generation.

He loved the fans and loved to perform. Steve Harwell was a true American Original.

“A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle.

“Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom.

“And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable.

“His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition, and his king-size cajones.

“Steve lives a 100 percent full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out.”
