The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation after an Elkins PD officer was discovered with a gunshot wound in a car.

Sheriff Rob Elbon stated that deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle call at around 11:30 A.M. on Friday along Route 33 East, outside of Elkins.

The caller reported that the car’s window appeared to be shot out.

Deputies found the victim with a gunshot wound, and he did not survive.

Officers plan to drape a black cloak or mourning band over the cruiser to honor the fallen officer.

The incident is being investigated by the RCSO, the Mountain Region Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, and the West Virginia State Police.
