Burglary Interrupted: Vehicle Owner’s Shot Claims Life of 12-Year-Old in Shreveport

A juvenile witness was apprehended, revealing that the deceased, a 12-year-old male, was part of a group of juveniles attempting to break into a vehicle in the vicinity.

On Saturday night, May 11, 2024, around 11 p.m., the Shreveport Police Department received reports of gunfire in the 8800 block of Hawthorne Drive.

Upon reaching the location, officers were informed of a black male who had been shot and was discovered unresponsive at the scene.

Despite the Shreveport Fire Department’s attempts to administer aid, the child was tragically pronounced dead.

Violent crimes investigators from the Shreveport Police Department immediately launched their investigation.

A juvenile witness was apprehended, revealing that the deceased, a 12-year-old male, was part of a group of juveniles attempting to break into a vehicle in the vicinity.

The burglary was interrupted by the vehicle owner, who discharged a firearm, resulting in the death of the 12-year-old.

Following interrogations, one juvenile has been taken into custody on a charge of simple burglary.

However, other juvenile suspects involved in the burglary are still on the loose. The individual responsible for the fatal shot has not yet been apprehended.

The Shreveport Police Department emphasizes that this investigation is in its preliminary phases and will work closely with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
